Mitch grew up in the grocery business. His parents founded ColdStar Solutions, a large Victoria-based food wholesaler and transportation company in 1999, where he got his crash course in one side of the grocery industry. He pursued a career in media, working in local radio for 8 years before pivoting back to food, helping a local frozen novelty brand navigate the retail world. These few years solidified in Mitch’s mind everything that’s wrong with the current grocery industry.

Fast forward a few years to 2021 and Mitch set off to start a direct-to-consumer grocery delivery service, BCause, as a way to keep people safe during the pandemic. The idea being to make it easier and more affordable to access nutritious food while helping to show that there is a better way to operate a grocery business.

Over the years BCause has grown and evolved and in early 2026, Mitch came to the realization that the mission of making groceries more accessible and affordable made BCause better suited to be a nonprofit and therefore has led the charge to transition the for-profit business into a non-profit business with the goal of stepping up to reshape the grocery landscape by opening Victoria’s first non-profit grocery store.
